We’re thrilled to welcome Carl Reader who will be working with the Practice Ignition team as our Head of Accounting (EMEA). A champion for small businesses with over 18 years of experience in the accounting industry, Carl uses his extensive knowledge, connections within the industry and many years of experience to provide advice to small to large enterprises throughout the United Kingdom, Europe and North America.
Carl is working with Practice Ignition following our A$26M Series B round and will play a key role in bringing ‘on the tools’ knowledge of how accounting firms work to our internal teams. Carl will also create content, webinars and engage with the wider community to help lead the conversation in the accounting industry, helping accounting firms across the United Kingdom step into best practice with confidence.
Carl is Joint Chairman of d&t Chartered Accountants, one of the UK’s very first (if not the first) online practices, having commenced their cloud journey in 2002. d&t has won many industry awards and has been known for pioneering both in technology and in its niching strategy, which has led to the firm dealing with High Street clients across the UK. Carl is also recognised personally in the accounting world, speaking at many industry conferences, as a regular industry commentator and columnist, and being one of the Accountancy Age 35 under 35.
Since stepping away from the day to day activities at d&t, Carl has focused on helping small businesses. He is a regular keynote speaker at UK and European business exhibitions, has had two business books published by Hodder, and has a third book being published in Q4 2020. He has appeared frequently on national TV, radio, and in every national newspaper as a small business expert and ambassador.
One of Carl’s strengths lies with his ability to articulate simply how small businesses think and operate, identifying key growth areas and opportunities. We think this will be welcomed by our accounting community who we know are often seeking more advice and practical content on how to engage with their own client base in a proactive and helpful way.
When he is not working, Carl works and volunteers his time in a number of different organisations and charities. He has a beautiful family that he enjoys spending time with when he is not out in the world contributing to the education and development of both accounting firms and small businesses. Also, anyone following his social media feeds will see that he is addicted to espresso, trainers and 1990’s cultural references!
Welcome aboard Carl! We’re extremely excited to have you.
