Here at ApprovalMax, we’re on a mission to simplify financial controls for businesses of all sizes. While these extra layers of checks and balances are crucial to keep financial records in line and protect company assets, smaller businesses often miss out on the benefits due to team size and a lack of access to enterprise-level resources.

That’s why we’re excited to introduce our first-ever Head of Financial Controls in North America, Angela Bierman CPA, CA. She joins the partner leadership team with a specific focus on helping more businesses and their partners build strong financial controls.

Growing the team

In the role, Angela will use her expertise on setting up and managing financial controls using technology to support our partner community as well as shape the ApprovalMax product to enable these controls.

“Financial controls are the guardrails of good decision-making in any business. The specific risks and materiality will fluctuate, but everyone has something to protect, and no one wants to lose money to fraud or carelessness,” says Angela. “The best financial controls are triggered automatically and pop up with alerts and information when and where you need them, in time to make a different decision and gently course correct.”

Based in Calgary, Canada, Angela draws on almost two decades of experience in accounting, finance, and operations in both public accounting and industry roles, focusing on small-to-medium-sized businesses. With a systems-thinking focus on efficiency, she helps businesses see first-hand that financial controls and a user-friendly experience aren’t mutually exclusive.

“I’m excited to be a part of a great company that is continuing to innovate and very clearly cares about both the user experience and financial controls,” adds Angela. “ApprovalMax is really the best of both worlds, because it makes it easier for accountants and non-accountants to review and approve transactions, and captures a detailed audit trail at the same time.”

Last year, ApprovalMax also welcomed Brendan Lucas and Cassandra Scott to the Australian team to lead accounting and bookkeeping in APAC and Stuart Hurst and Lara Manton in the UK.
