Expensify.org, a 501(c)(3) charity with a fully transparent direct-giving model, today announced their Teachers Unite campaign to support teachers and staff by subsidizing their purchases of students’ school supplies. Severe educator shortages and underfunding in schools across the country cause many teachers to spend their own money on essential school supplies for their students. The Teachers Unite campaign seeks to pay educators back for 50% of eligible purchases up to $100.

“Expensify.org is extremely proud to support teachers everywhere with relief for out-of-pocket school supply expenses,” said David Barrett, founder and CEO of Expensify. “In 2022 alone, over 90% of teachers spent their own money on school supplies. And even before the pandemic, teachers were spending on average $500 out-of-pocket every year. This is an issue we can address via our chat-based platform, New Expensify, in two ways: by allowing teachers to split the bill with us and by encouraging them to collaborate across school systems.”

Those eligible for the campaign are kindergarten through grade 12 teachers, instructors, counselors, principals, or aides who are in school for at least 900 hours per school year. They can get started by downloading the New Expensify app on iOS or Android and creating an account with their official school email address.
